The Critics Win Fernstock Battle of the Bands

Fernstock Battle of the Bands
On June 18, 2023, fifteen local bands selected from over 30 entries took the stage at the Humboldt County Fairgrounds in Ferndale, CA to compete for the grand prize of $5,000. It was stiff competition with both cover bands and original bands from multiple genres competing. The Critics were blown away when they were announced as the grand prize winners. The band is using the proceeds to further their music career. The funds helped them with their first professional music video "Where U Went" released on September 12th. They are promoting the song and video release internationally. They are going into the studio in October to record their next EP and plan to record a full album in 2024. A huge thanks to the organizers and supporters of Fernstock and to the community of Humboldt for this incredible opportunity to further their career.

It’s been a few months since The Critics launched the lead single “The Noise” to radio stations and music VIPs nationally and the response has been beyond their expectations. Releasing music to streaming platforms like Spotify and iTunes is pretty common for musicians these days. The Critics took it a step further by using music promoter, PlayMPE, to distribute “The Noise” to radio stations and music VIPs across the nation. They hoped music and program directors would select their song for air play to get their music in front of a larger audience and their dream has become a reality. To date, “The Noise” has had 63 downloads and 147 streams by radio stations, internet retailers, and music VIPs nationwide. The downloads include 29 states from coast to coast and 3 locations in Canada. For an indie band that has yet to tour outside of Humboldt County and has only been on music streaming platforms for just over a year, this is a huge accomplishment.
